Fat Faux Pas ?

Hi ! So, i was thinking today and i decided to do something productive with this blog, so that im not just blurting out a load of useless nonesense. From now on i will do the occasional review of a brand or product that i have used (à la Bubbles1101 and Dianne Day Dreams), and some other little similar bits and pieces...

I'm going to start by doing a review on some hair products i've been using as of late..

Lately i've been quite into 'big hair' and as somebody with quite fine and...well, not very 'big' hair, i decided to seek out some helpful products. After some hours spent perusing the many bottles in the haircare isle at superdrug, i came across this...

The Samy Fat Hair "0" Calories Range...

Available in various different bottle sizes and at bargain prices (most products are under £10) i decided to give it a go..

I purchased two products, the 300ml bottle of 'Thickening Shampoo', which came in at £5.49, and the 50ml bottle of 'Amplifying Hair Spray' which came in at £4.98. Note: to my knowledge the whole samy range is now on sale in superdrug for around half the price ! typical.

The product info on the shampoo is as follows;

"This revolutionary sulphate free, 100% vegan, thickening shampoo is the first step toward thicker, fuller, stronger hair. Samy’s exclusive FH4 Thickening Complex—a blend of natural extracts and proteins—penetrates each hair strand, increasing the strand’s diameter and expanding the hair from the inside out. The result—thicker, fuller, stronger, healthier looking hair."

The product info on the hair spray is as follows;

"This extra hold, shaping and amplifying mist is a versatile design tool that adds extra volume, fullness and shine to any style. This unique formula keeps your style all day long and brushes through for easy re-styling.Leaves hair looking and feeling soft and touchable. Adds strength, body and texture without residue, buildup, stickiness or flaking."

Now, i'll start with the shampoo.. I have been using the shampoo pretty much every day for around a month now, and to be totally honest it started out looking okay, and went totally downhill ! I was originally quite impressed with the packaging and also the value for money as it is quite a big bottle and i tend to find with 'designer' or 'professional' ranges that you only get a small amount of product for a large amount of money. So i guess that's what attracted me to it initially. As far as texture, fragrance and effectiveness etc goes..
I found the smell to be quite odd if im honest, it doesnt really smell of anything in particular, it just smells.. well, odd ! I overlooked this since it did say it was 100% vegan so i thought maybe they had purposely made it 'fragrance free', and it did make me feel like i was being that little bit kinder to the environment by using a vegan shampoo. It has a really rich creme/gel consistency, which i am fond of, and it does feel really thick and luxurious when first applied to your hair. I found aswell that you really only need a tiny amount of shampoo to work up quite a good lather. So yeah, when first applied your hair immediatly feels silkier and softer, even when still washing, but then..this to me is rather pointless when in search of thicker, more volumised hair. If i wanted softer hair i would have bought the conditioner.. ! Then to add insult to injury, when drying/styling i didnt see any noticable improvement in my hair at all, no extra volume, it didnt look particularly fuller or stronger or even healthier... even after using several times.
So overall, while this product might be a joy to apply, i wasn't looking for a herbal essences type experience, and thought the product to be quite decieving and a waste of money if i'm honest. I highly doubt i will purchase this again !

Moving onto the hairspray.. I have been using this for around a month too, maybe not everyday but probably every other day, and for nights out etc. In a similar fashion to the shampoo, this product at first started out looking like a lifesaver. The packaging was attractive and although it wasnt as big a tube or as good value for money as the shampoo, it is a perfect size to fit in a handbag on a night out, so this in my opinion was worth the few extra pennies.
The smell of the spray is very similar to the shampoo, quite odd, but to be quite honest i dont know of many hairsprays that smell nice, as opposed to shampoo, which normally is nice and fragrant ! So i could overlook that. In general i found the spray does give a very strong hold, infact i think i even used the phrase "this is like glue" when i first used it haha ! However i did find that it didnt last long and my hair would drop after a short while. I also didnt think it added any 'extra fullness or volume' other than what i'd already added by backcoming or plumping up my hair, and it definately didn't leave my hair feeling 'soft and touchable' as promised, it infact made my hair dry as sticks and solid as a rock. While this product didn't do as much of a nosedive as the shampoo in my estimations, i wouldn't reccomend it as a thickening spray or volume spray or whatever, but i do continue using it as a regular hairspray for during the day. For important times i have switched back to my old Tresemme hairspray !

So i guess all in all, the samy fat hair range turned out to be more of a big fat fail.

Well i hope you found this useful or atleast slightly entertaining and if anybody else has used these products i would love to know what you thought !
Bye for now !
